Education Support

Sponsoring children who can’t afford education

In Tanzania, financial difficulties are a major reason why children drop out of school. Although education is free, families often struggle to cover costs like uniforms, school supplies, and transport and others, which range from $70-$150 per year.

An opportunity to get an education

The Education Support Program began in the 1990s as a private initiative by Ruth Nesje and Odd Lund Isaksen and their friends. When our NGO HAMA was established in 2014, the program became a key part of its social initiatives. It supports vulnerable students; many of whom are orphans or come from difficult home environments—by providing: School, college, and university fees, Uniforms, stationery, and transport, and accommodation, meals, and pocket money for boarding students

The program also empowers youth through the Girls and Boys Project, in collaboration with exchange students from in and outside the country. This initiative addresses critical topics for youth development, equipping students with knowledge and skills to make informed decisions and prepare for a balanced future. By 2024, the program has helped a significant number of students pursue their education, fostering a generation with the tools and opportunities to achieve their dreams and build a better future
